Excitement as FUOYE commissions Fasina Conference Centre

There was excitement at Federal University Oye-Ekiti on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, commissioned the Fasina Conference Centre at phase III of the ivory tower.

The commissioning was part of the activities for the week-long activities for the 9th Convocation of the university

The Director of FUOYE Advancement Centre, Prof. Olubukola Mojisola Oyawoye, who took the Council members, University staff and other dignitaries on a facility tour of the centre, hailed the august gathering for being part of commissioning of the beautiful project.

Oyawoye, a former Commissioner for the Environment in Osun State, said, “The Fasina Conference Center boasts of cutting-edge technological equipment, including smart boards and smart televisions, ensuring an enhanced learning experience.

“The center is solar-powered, providing a sustainable source of energy and features air-conditioned facilities and kitchen amenities, making it an ideal venue for conferences, workshops and other events.

The Advancement Centre Director, said, “The project is from endowment and fundraising from individuals within and outside the university. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, contributed immensely from his personal purse.

“The project was at no cost to FUOYE. We named this building after Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina because of his initiative to put this beautiful project here. The VC attracted his colleagues from all walks of life and within the university to contribute to the completion of this building, we are indeed grateful for his gestures.

“We appreciate all the donors including the VC, DVCs, academic staff, and non-teaching staff of the university for their contribution towards the laudable project”.

Oyawoye also especially appreciated a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Adeoye Adedayo, for handsome contribution to the endowment to provide scholarship to indigent students in the university.

The don added that “there are some other laudable projects which would be named after the past vice chancellors of this great university”.

The Pro-Chancellor and Governing Council Chairman, Senator Ndoma-Egba, described funding of the centre project as “a testament to the goodwill that the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fasina enjoys both locally and internationally. This is a world-class conference centre”.

Senator Ndoma-Egba said, “There is the need to always honor great men while they are alive and still here with us. FUOYE’s story must not just be told, but must also be experienced to have a more lasting impression and lasting legacy

The Chairman of the Governing Council appreciated Prof. Fasina for his giant strides in making the university a global one.

Other laudable projects commissioned by the Governing Council chairman included the Post Graduate School Building, Faculty of Law Building, and 1000 seater Auditorium which will be used for the 9th Convocation of the university.

The VC had said on Monday at a press conference heralding the ninth convocation ceremonies that his administration had completed 156 projects in the last four years.

Fasina had said, “FUOYE is poised for even greater success in the coming years. We are committed to deepening our research impact, expanding our infrastructure and providing our students with the best possible academic experience.

“The new Strategic Plan (2021-2026) is designed to guide us through the next phase of growth. It includes a comprehensive 25-year framework for the future of FUOYE, which will position us as a leading university in Africa.

“We will continue to invest in cutting-edge technology, foster international partnerships and ensure that our graduates are equipped to meet the challenges of tomorrow,” the VC said.
