A 54-year-old motor mechanic, Abisodun, has been arrested for allegedly stealing a Nisan Xterra car belonging to his customer at the Isheri-Oshun area of Lagos State.
The mechanic, on the basis of familiarity with the customer, had gone to his house, collected the car keys and drove it to unknown destination.
Sources said the mechanic chose a Sunday when the car owner has gone to church to visit his house, collected the keys to the vehicle from his daughter and drove it away to an unknown destination
But luck ran out of him when the police in Lagos State Command nabbed him.
Abisodun’s arrest followed the complaints by a resident in the area about his missing Nissan Xterra.
A police source said on Monday, “The DPO immediately detailed surveillance and anti-car theft team to the scene. The suspect was later arrested through intelligence gathering and he led the officers to 47-year-old Charles, who received the vehicle from him.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, while confirming the incident, said the receiver was also arrested and the vehicle was recovered.
Hundeyin said that an investigation was ongoing into the incident.
