By John Odunjo

A civil engineering graduate of Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Hanseza Oraduwen, on Monday began marathon ironing of clothes to set a new Guinness World Record for Longest Ironing Time.

Oraduwen, who is undergoing the GWR contest at Oh La La Café at Isaba Ekiti in the Ikole Local Government area of Ekiti State, said he was out to iron clothes non-stop for a minimum of 150hours to shatter the existing 100hours record.

The FUOYE graduate, who said that by becoming GWR holder for Longest Ironing time, he intended to create awareness on the importance of ironing, said, “I am prepared for the exercise in line with the rules and regulations guiding it.

The Naka, Benue State-born engineer, said, “I opened a call for submission of clothes and I have received a good number of clothes. Submission of clothes will run throughout the event.

“I am talented in Ironing. I am aspiring to set a record of a minimum of 150 hours ironing marathon to beat the current record of 100hours set in Bristol, UK, in October 2015 by the present GWR holder in Longest Marathon Ironing, Gareth Sanders.

“The fact that one person made it before now is enough motivation. Beyond that, I value persistence and endurance as core. Before this GWR chase, I have ironed multiple times on marathons.

Oraduwen said that the expected crowd to cheer him up on his journey to set a new GWR for Longest Ironing Time would not distract him from attaining the target, but rather keep him focused.

He said that his marathon ironing would be streamed live via Facebook, X, Instagram with Hansezawilfredo

The management of Oh La La Cafe, venue of the Press-a-thon, called for support for the GWR chaser, saying, “In a celebration of our 3rd month anniversary, we are honored to host Hanseza Wilfred, who has been accepted for the GWR challenge for the Longest Ironing Time.

“Let’s come together as a community to support Haseza Wilfred. Spread the word, bring your clothes for ironing, and join us for a celebration and an attempt at making history!

“As part of this incredible feat, we invite the general public to submit their clean clothes for ironing. Our café will be open 24/7 throughout the event, serving delectable food and drinks to the audience cheering him on to victory. The Oh Là Là Café team is here to make your dining experience as memorable as this record-breaking attempt,” the management said in a statement.
