The lawmaker representing Igede Ward B in the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Council, Comrade Adewumi Sikiru Adekunle, popularly known as Omo Imam Adekunle, has lauded Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his unwavering commitment to advancing agriculture and empowering youth across Ekiti State.
Adekunle expressed excitement at the recent developments and initiatives spearheaded by the governor with a view to transform the agricultural landscape of the region.
The councilor commended the governor’s significant visit to Oke Ako in the Ikole Local Government Area where he said Oyebanji took a crucial step in promoting agricultural sustainability and economic empowerment.
He said, “Governor Oyebanji distributed cheques for payment of compensation to local landowners affected by the government’s acquisition of land and plantations, which are essential for the innovative ‘Bring Back the Youth to Agriculture’ program.
“This vital initiative is thoughtfully designed to attract and engage young farmers while fostering sustainable agricultural practices that are critical to the state’s long-term food security and economic resilience.
“As part of this programme, an impressive 4,000 hectares of land have been earmarked for cultivation by young farmers in collaboration with YSP Farm, an initiative that promises to revolutionize farming practices in the area by integrating modern agricultural techniques and promoting youth participation.
“The Oyebanji administration has also allocated over N2 billion specifically for the clearing and preparation of an additional 1,200 hectares of land, designated for dry season farming activities. This investment is pivotal in enhancing agricultural productivity and ensuring that Ekiti State remains an agricultural hub.
“Additionally, Governor Oyebanji’s commitment extends to addressing infrastructural needs within farm settlements. Recent allocations include N234 million for the construction and renovation of security buildings, ensuring a safe and secure environment for farmers. These measures not only protect investments, but also promote a conducive atmosphere for farming activities.
“Furthermore, the governor is keen on fostering local poultry production through the establishment of poultry hubs. This initiative represents a significant stride toward enhancing food production and creating job opportunities for the youth.
“The recent completion of the first cycle closing session for program coordinators of the Ikole and Erifun Poultry Hubs exemplifies the administration’s proactive approach to agricultural growth and youth involvement in the poultry sector,” the councilor said.
Adekunle emphasized the transformative impact of these initiatives on local communities, stating, “Governor Oyebanji’s dedication to agriculture and youth empowerment is commendable. These programmes not only provide immediate benefits to landowners and farmers, but also lay the foundation for sustainable development in Ekiti State. The future of agriculture looks promising as more young people are encouraged to participate actively in this vital sector.”
He said, “The ongoing efforts and investments made by the BAO administration signal a new era for agriculture in Ekiti State, where youth are empowered to lead the charge in cultivating the land and driving economic growth.
Omo imam Adekunle expressed optimism for the continued support from the state government, highlighting that these initiatives reflect a comprehensive strategy aimed at revitalizing agriculture and enhancing the livelihoods of the people in Ekiti.
He said, “As Ekiti State moves forward under Governor Oyebanji’s leadership, the integration of youth into the agricultural sector remains a priority, reinforcing the belief that the future of Ekiti’s economy lies in the hands of its young farmers. The community looks forward to the positive outcomes of these initiatives and the broader impact they will have on the state’s agricultural landscape”.
