The Department of State Service (DSS), Ekiti State Command has said that investigations showed that domestic staff invited the kidnappers of the former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Prof. Olorunfemi Olaofe.

The kidnappers took the man away alongside his security guard on July 9 and they eventually killed the retired university teacher.

The security agency, spoke in a statement stated to alert the general public on the uncovering of the gruesome murder of the kidnapped 79-year-old former EKSU VC.

The DSS stated that the murder was consequent upon “the planned kidnap of OLAOFE (Prof) by a gang of about seven suspected kidnappers at his residence, located at Plot 12, 15th Avenue, Federal Housing Phase II, Ado Ekiti on 9th of July 2024”.

The security agency stated, “Investigation activities revealed that the kidnap incident was masterminded by the domestic staff, who invited others in carrying out the dastardly act.

“However, further investigation by the operatives of the Command led to the discovery of OLAOFE’s (Prof) remains buried in a shallow grave at a farm settlement along Airport Road, Afao-Ekiti.

“The Command wishes to express its profound gratitude to the State Government for her invaluable support in the course of the ongoing investigation. However, the case will soon be transferred to the State Police Command for prosecution having established a case of homicide.

“Meanwhile, the Command wishes to enjoin members of the public to remain calm,” the DSS stated in a statement.

The Police Commissioner in Ekiti, Adeniran Akinwale, had on Wednesday said that “the professor has been found dead and we are doing everything possible to exhume the body for burial.

“However, we have arrested so many people and you know the circumstances surrounding the incident and we suspected insiders’ work in which the security man employed by the professor was the one who planned it.

“They (abductors) kidnapped the man with him so that we will not suspect. In the process of rescuing him, we have arrested some people. I can’t say much about the security guard, but at the appropriate time, we will brief the public,” the police commissioner said.
