Ekiti appoints new monarch for community

Ekiti State Government has approved the appointment of Prince Gbenga Agbaje of the Aulodobiosupa Ruling House as the Eesalokun of Ilukuno Ekiti in Ijero Local Government area.

With the approval, Agbaje will succeed the immediate past Oba Festus Adebayo Jegede, who was from Okeorobiapo Ruling House.

This approval made at the state Executive Council meeting on Wednesday as disclosed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, on Friday.

The throne became vacant on 13th April, 2024 following the demise of Oba Festus Adebayo Jegede.

Olatunbosun stated that “the provision of the Chiefs Law (2012) was strictly adhered to in the selection of Prince Agbaje Gbenga as the Eesalokun of Ilukuno Ekiti.

“Eesalokun of Ilukuno Ekiti is a Recognized Chieftaincy in line with Part I, Section 3 (1) of the Chiefs Edicts (1984) Cap C5 Law of Ekiti State and Ilukuno Ekiti has a Registered Chieftaincy Declaration that established three (3) Ruling Houses namely: Aulodobiosupa, Agbegileegun and Okeorobiapo, with six Kingmakers who performs the roles of filling vacant stool of Eesalokun of Ilukuno Ekiti.

“The State Executive Council (SEC) also authorized the publication of the appointment as legal notice in the State Government Gazette,” the Special Adviser stated
