By John Odunayo
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government Affairs, Mr Babatunde Olaoye, has charged local government officials to advance grassroots development and improve service delivery across Ekiti State.
Olaoye made the call in Ado Ekiti at the closing ceremony of the three-day workshop organized by the Ministry in partnership with TIMA Integrated Business Limited for the vice chairmen, special advisers and supervisors in the local governments and local council development areas across the State.

The permanent secretary said he believed the council officials had gained so much in the workshop with the eight presentations delivered which would be put into practice at their various offices for effective service delivery.
Olaoye assured continuous capacity trainings for grassroots development which aligns with one of the six pillars of the Biodun Oyebanji administration’s Human Capital Development.
Among topics treated at the workshop are ‘Understanding LG System in Nigeria leadership structure & mandates’, ‘Roles and responsibilities of Vice Chairmen, Supervisors & Special Advisers in the LG Administration’, ‘Accountability and ethical conduct in public service’.

One of the facilitators, Dr Oluwaleye Adeniji, who is also the Chairman of Ekameta LCDA, did justice to the topic ‘Building political synergy and effective leadership teams in the LG Administration’.
He explained that harmonious synergy and teamwork with good interpersonal relationships are very important in the achievement of goals in any administration.

The Chairman of the Communique Drafting Committee, Hon. Fausat Aladetoyinbo, lauded the state government for the educative and enlightening training, as he promised to apply the lessons to enhance quality delivery at the grassroots.
According to Aladetoyinbo, some of the resolutions contained in the communique are that there should be orientation and implementation of existing organogram and line of communication in the LG system for proper understanding of roles and responsibilities and that the principle of transparency, accountability and ethical conduct should be further entrenched in the LG administration to encourage effective service delivery among others.
Certificates of Attendance were thereafter presented to the 250 participants.
