The Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) Alumni Association is celebrating its members selected as fellows in the prestigious 2025 AI and Tech Accountability Reporting Fellowship – an initiative spearheaded by the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) in collaboration with AI Collective Nigeria.

The university community is also not left out of the celebration of the four FUOYE alumni among the 20 outstanding journalists and researchers selected nationwide.

Their selection followed a rigorous training and pitch submission process which focused on ethics, social impact and accountability in artificial intelligence.

The President of FUOYE Alumni Association, Bishop Temitope Arogundade, who congratulated the fellows, described their selection as a testament to the excellence and relevance of FUOYE alumni in global conversations around technology, innovation, and responsible journalism.

Arogundade said, “This is a proud moment for FUOYE. Our alumni are not only thriving professionally, but are also helping to shape national discourse on the ethical use of technology.

“Their selection into such a forward-thinking fellowship validates the strength of our academic foundation and the continuous support they receive from the alumni body.”

The Alumni president also extended his appreciation and congratulations to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olubunmi Shittu, “whose support and leadership have continued to inspire institutional growth and academic excellence”.

He also hailed the Director of Advancement, Prof. Olubukola Oyawoye, saying, “She has remained a tireless bridge between the alumni community and the university’s development agenda”.

While celebrating the alumni’s feat, Bishop Arogundade used the opportunity to reflect on some of the key accomplishments of the Alumni Association under his leadership, describing them as “foundational investments for a greater FUOYE.”

Among the notable achievements during his tenure are:

* The purchase and donation of 36 refrigerators to support the institution during the accreditation programme;

* Significant financial contributions to the development of Fasina Conference Centre, which is expected to serve as a hub for academic, administrative, and innovation-related events;

* The completion of the FUOYE Alumni Building, which now serves as a central meeting point and operations base for the association’s engagements and alumni affairs; and

* The donation of two brand-new laptops to the Registry Unit, enhancing administrative efficiency and institutional operations.

The Alumni president said, “We are proud of what we’ve achieved together, but there is still more to come.

“The work of building FUOYE’s future does not end. We are preparing new initiatives to support students, strengthen the university’s global profile, and expand opportunities for our alumni in diverse sectors.”

As the alumni community continues to grow in numbers and influence, the FUOYE Alumni Association under Bishop Arogundade remains committed to empowering graduates and giving back to the institution that shaped their journey
