Public and private primary and secondary schools in Ekiti State have been directed to resume for
the first term of the year 2023/2024 academic session by the state government.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr Kofoworola Aderiye, said the resumption “is in accordance with the approved calendar for the academic year”.

Aderiye, in a statement by the Principal Information Officer of the Ministry, Abiodun Olofe, said, “All heads of schools, teachers and students of secondary and primary schools in Ekiti State are to resume academic activities on Monday 18th September, 2023.

Meanwhile, new developments including renovated structures, new teachers and free buses for students have been the lot of some public schools in the state.

This is as the state government has directed the 500 newly recruited secondary school teachers to pick up their posting letters on Monday, by 8am on September 18.

The Permanent Secretary, Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Mr Mike Omolayo, said, “The new teachers are thereafter expected to immediately report at their places of primary assignment for the commencement of 2023/2024 Academic Session.

A statement by TESCOM Chief Information Officer, Adejoke Ajayi, said, “The new teachers are to submit a copy of their posting letters to the principals of their schools for issuance of letters of Assumption of Duties which is expected to get to the Commission on or before 25th September, 2023”.

Also, the governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has also approved commencement of Public Secondary School Mass Transit Scheme at no cost to the public secondary school students.

The Permanent Secretary, General Administration Department, Mr James Owolabi, said that the mass transit bus operation is to mitigate the effect of the high cost of transportation occasioned by removal of subsidy on petrol on civil servants and parents.

Owolabi, in a statement, said operation of the scheme will start on Monday, 18th September, with the public secondary students (JSS1 to SSS3) as earlier promised by the governor that students will start to benefit during the resumption from the long vacation.

He said that the public secondary school students should always appear in their school uniforms to enable them to enjoy the buses, which will operate between 6.30am to 8.00am and 2.00pm to 4.00pm daily within Ado Ekiti Metropolis.

Owolabi stated that the buses would ply two routes

Route 1 From Atlas Motel; Mobil; Ajilosun; Ijigbo; Old garage Okesa; Fajuyi; Adebayo; Housing; Afao Road; Oke Ila: Old Garage; Okesa; to Fajuyi.

Route 2 From Poly Road; Erifun; Ureje; Odo Ado; Mathew Street; Old Garage; Okesa; Fajuyi; Pavilion; NTA Road; Ilawe Road; Irona; Ijigbo; Old Garage; Okesa; Fajuyi.
