“This is the initiative of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fasina, to honour dignitaries who have contributed immensely to the development of our nation and occasioned the naming of our buildings after them”
By John Odunayo
The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has successfully executed the National Recognition Scheme, a landmark initiative that immortalises the legacies of eminent Nigerians by naming key buildings and facilities in their honour.
With the gracious approval of the University Council, the visionary project conceptualised and championed by Prof. Fasina reflects FUOYE’s deep commitment to national excellence, institutional heritage, and strategic engagement.
The implementation was led by the Directorate of Advancement, under the leadership of Prof. Olubukola Oyawoye and supervised by the university management led by Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olubunmi Shittu.
Notable figures honoured include President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Dr Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, Senator Ayo Arise and several other distinguished Nigerians whose names now grace FUOYE’s academic and administrative landscape.
Speaking to journalists, Prof. Oyawoye stressed that “the initiative is more than symbolic, it is a bold affirmation of legacy, excellence and the power of national icons to inspire future generations.
“This is the initiative of the Vice Chancellor to name dignitaries who have contributed immensely to the development of our nation and occasioned the naming of our buildings after them,” she said.
