AIYEDATIWA’S EDUCATION AWARD: A TESTAMENT TO PURPOSEFUL LEADERSHIP
By Otunba Wale Akinlosotu, PhD, FCIPA
Leadership is ultimately measured not by promises made, but by the lives touched, opportunities created and institutions strengthened.
The Federal Government’s recognition of Ondo State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his contributions to education is therefore more than an award. It represents recognition of an administration that has placed human capital development prominently on its governance agenda.
The recognition is backed by tangible interventions across the sector. The administration has recruited more than 2,000 teachers to strengthen the state’s teaching workforce, while several schools have been constructed, renovated and upgraded to provide safer and more conducive learning environments.

In 2026, the government also approved N633.918 million for WASSCE registration for public-school students and N400 million in bursaries, scholarships and other assistance for 13,360 students in tertiary institutions. Excellence has equally been encouraged through the recognition and reward of outstanding students, teachers and NYSC award recipients, including automatic employment for seven outstanding NYSC awardees.
At the tertiary level, increased subventions to state-owned institutions and implementation of the Federal Government/union agreement have further supported institutional development and staff welfare.
These measures reflect an administration that sees education not merely as a government responsibility, but as a strategic investment in Ondo State’s human capital and future.
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s background as a former teacher adds a personal dimension to this commitment. At the award ceremony, he dedicated the recognition to teachers across the state, acknowledging their sacrifices and central role in shaping the future.

For a state with a proud tradition of educational excellence, sustaining that legacy requires consistent investment in people, infrastructure and institutions. The interventions of the Aiyedatiwa administration demonstrate a deliberate effort to strengthen that foundation.
Education is the foundation of every enduring development – and purposeful leadership is what turns that foundation into a future.
Congratulations, Your Excellency, on this well-deserved recognition. May this honor inspire even greater commitment to transforming education and expanding opportunities for the children and young people of Ondo State. The work continues, and the future is brighter when we invest in it today.
