The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has welcomed the immediate past Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Engr Adebayo Dayo, into its fold.
APC said, “We welcome Engr. Dayo into the progressives fold. We salute his courage and hope to tap from his rich grassroots political experience.”
The ruling APC, in a statement in Abeokuta on Thursday by the state Publicity Secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, said, “Engr. Adebayo Dayo’s move, though should have happened much earlier, is a step in the right direction”.
The party, which assures of a level-playing field and equal opportunity for all, said, “As our leader and governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has always said ‘in the APC, there are no founders, there are no joiners. We are all stakeholders and family members’.”
The party expressed the hope that in the next couple of days, more members of the “asphyxiating Ogun state PDP will abandon it and join the gentleman, but hardworking governor in taking Ogun State to greater heights, thereby giving meaning to the slogan ‘igbega ipinle Ogun, ajose gbogbo wa ni’.”
The former PDP State chairman, had while leading his retinue of loyalists to APC, hinged his decision and action on the “genuine and holistic developments of the nooks and crannies of the state by the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration”.
Engr. Dayo, who is also a one-time chairman of Ijebu North Local Government, said that the decision had become much more imperative “as the PDP is now bedevilled with inconsistencies in ideology and vision to significantly give hope to the common man.”
He said, “I am convinced of this administration’s sincerity and commitment to the well-being of the people, and I have seen this administration demonstrate it irrespective of party affiliation or religious leaning.
“The governor has governed with every sense of decorum and responsibility, touching the lives of the people across the social strata.
“These vivid convictions prompted my decision to bring my loyalists to join the APC, not because I was offered money, but I come of my own volition since the administration walks its talk and I want a better life for my people, loyalists and we can no longer be behind the fence.”
Earlier while welcoming the former PDP chairman and his loyalists to the party at Ward 3, Omen, Ijebu North Local Government Area, on behalf of the governor, the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr Olatokunbo Talabi, described Engr. Bayo Dayo as a man who is passionate about the development and upliftment of the downtrodden.
The SSG noted that Engr Dayo’s decision to join the APC with his loyalists was purely because he had seen what he expects of a government from the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration.
Talabi said, “We have remained focused and amenable to changes and people-oriented initiatives which has, in turn, fascinated the opposition to our party.”
