Residents along the popular Omisanjana – Ajebandele Road in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, are excited at the news of government readiness to begin construction of the Omisanjana Junction -Ilawe Junction portion of the road any moment from now.
Already, construction work on the Omisanjana Junction – Ajebandele portion of the road are at different stages, giving residents sense of hope.
Ekiti State Government had earlier given six months notice to all owners of illegal structures and attachments along the Omisanjana Junction – Ilawe Junction to remove them.
As a follow up, the state government on Wednesday gave owners of such structures along Ilawe/Omisanjana junction to remove them before Friday this week as all is set for the commencement of the construction work.
A community leader in the area, Mr Babatunde Ajayi, who expressed the people’s excitement, lauded the governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, for making the construction of the road a priority.
Ajayi said, “Construction of the road will open up the area for improved economic activities and improve the people’s living standard”.
The community leader assured that the people would cooperate with the government at ensuring successful completion of the project.
Also, a resident, Mr Joe Adeniyi, who expressed joy that construction of the road would take place at last, said, “It will be a great relief to us and as well boost activities. We have gone through a lot of agony in the area whether during the rainy or dry season”.
Ekiti State Commissioner for Works, Adesola Adebayo, gave the directive to owners of the illegal structures and attachments, during an inspection tour of roads in the state capital and environs.
Adesola, who said the Ministry of Works had given the owners of the structures six months’ notice of government intention to commence the construction work on the road anytime, urged them to comply with the directive, “otherwise the structures would be forcibly removed while the work is ongoing. There won’t be compensation for the victims”.
The commissioner said that the road users would be diverted to other alternative roads in the axis.
He stressed the Oyebanji administration’s commitment to the welfare of Ekiti people, saying “government is working round the clock to provide conducive environment for the populace and will not do anything to hurt the citizenry”.
Adebayo urged pedestrians to be very careful not to be injured in the process of the construction work.
