The Police Public Relations Officer, Osun State Command, Yemisi Opalola, has confirmed the killing of a bishop in Osogbo, the state capital.

The bishop, identified simply as Bishop Shina, who is the founder of a church in the Osun State capital, was stabbed to death on Thursday while allegedly attempting to mediate a domestic dispute between a couple.

Details of the couple involved remain unclear, but sources revealed that the wife was an interpreter at bishop’s church located around the BCGA area in Osogbo.

Sources said that the couple, although not officially divorced, had a history of frequent altercations that led to them living apart.

It was gathered that the bishop, who was known for intervening in their disputes, had gone to visit the wife, who had been ill for some time.

The husband reportedly arrived at the residence early Thursday morning and found the clergyman in the room. Enraged by the situation, the husband allegedly attacked the bishop.

A source said, “There was a heated argument, and the husband angrily took a knife and stabbed the pastor in the chest. The bishop died on the spot”.

The source said that the police had arrested the couple while the corpse of the bishop had been deposited at the morgue.

Osun State police spokesperson, Opalola, who said the couple were not living together though not legally separated, said, “The pastor had been intervening in their quarrels, and on this occasion, he was at the wife’s house when the estranged husband arrived.

“We were told that the husband stabbed the pastor multiple times, killing him. There is suspicion that the husband believed the pastor was having an affair with his wife,” she said.
