* Govt to seal unauthorized buildings

Ekiti State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Rt Hon. Karounwi Oladapo, has said that the developers of the building that collapsed at Ido Ekiti on deviated from the approved plan, thus posing safety concern.
No life was lost in the incident which involved an uncompleted storey building which came down on Thursday.
Karounwi, who restated the state government’s commitment to preventing such mishaps,
warned non-compliant developers of government’s resolve to seal any unauthorized structures within the state.
According to a statement in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, the commissioner, spoke during an on the site inspection of the scene to ascertain the cause.
Oladapo said, “Despite the structure being registered and having obtained the necessary building permit prior to construction, the constructed building deviated significantly from the approved plans, posing a severe safety concern”.
Although no fatality was recorded in then incident, Oladapo stressed that “the government is unwavering committed to preventing such mishaps, even before any lives are endangered”.
He said that the state government would not only grant building permits, but would also institute rigorous supervision of approved constructions to ensure strict adherence to established guidelines.
He appealed to Ekiti residents to collaborate with Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration in advocating for safety within the state’s construction sector.
