Ekiti charges workers on enhanced performance

Public Servants in Ekiti State have been charged to strictly adhere to work ethics as they put in efforts to enhance their performance for improved service delivery in Local government administration.

Ekiti State Commissioner for Local Govt Affairs, Hon. Folorunso Olabode, gave the charge at the closing ceremony of a three-day training workshop organised for council chairmen, secretaries to the local govt, House leaders, heads of local govt administration, directors of finance and other top government functionaries in Ado Ekiti.

The workshop with the theme, ‘LG autonomy: Repositioning the local government for effective service delivery’, was organized by the Ministry of Local Government Affairs in partnership with Sunstone Place Management Consultants for councils’ executives, legislatives and top managements.

Olabode lauded Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, for approving the training to bring out the best in the top local government officials.

The commissioner appreciated the huge attendance of participants and the interactive and participatory sessions where he believed everyone had gained more than enough, having been imparted with fresh ideas and new knowledge which he referred to as privilege.

The Commissioner emphasized the essence of the programme to include “networking, learning of new things, capacity building and getting to know each other more” among others which he believed were achieved.

Olabode, who said that all learnt must reflect in the local government management and administration, advised participants on feedback for further clarification on any issues for better understanding in any of the presentations delivered.

While presenting the certificates to the participants, the commissioner expressed his satisfaction with the consultants’ conduct, souvenirs and well presented lectures, as he admonished the participants to ensure new things learnt and absorbed reflect in their conduct and practices in LG administration.

Earlier in her remarks, the lead Consultant, Mrs Oluwaseyi Macaulay, stated that positive change and better service delivery were expected at the local government service with the training exposed to.

Macaulay highlighted some of the topics presented to include the Evolution of Local Government and its Importance in Nation Building; Local Government Autonomy in Nigeria: Meaning, Challenges, Prospects and Expectations; The Impact of Work Ethics on Performance and Quality Service Delivery by Local Government Administrators; Burnout Prevention and Recovery; Stress Management and General Well Being and hosts of others.

Responding, the Chairman, Oye Local LG, Hon. Adesola Bamisile, lauded the state government for the workshop, where lots were gained for better service delivery.

Bamisile requested that the act of training and retraining should continue in order to boost the performance of workers in the state.
