FUOYE: Fraudsters out to dupe public with fake social media accounts of VC

By John Odunjo

The Vice Chancellor, Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, on Wednesday raised the alarm over the attempts by some internet fraudsters to use fake social media accounts to defraud members of the public.

Fasina, who said that the fraudsters were making the attempts through some social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp and specifically chats and Voice notes via WhatsApp, clarified that no official transactions were being done on social media.

The VC, who spoke in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Wole Balogun, said, “We therefore wish to reiterate that the VC of FUOYE does not transact official business with anyone on social media as there are official channels for such transactions”.

He said that all official businesses were being done “through direct physical contacts at the office of the VC on the main campus in Oye-Ekiti in Oye Local Government area of Ekiti State“.

The statement reads in part, “Members of the public and the FUOYE community are hereby warned to beware of internet fraudsters faking the VC’s identity via some social media platforms.
“The evil doers have stepped up their game of deceit and fraud. They now send voice notes to their target victims via WhatsApp platforms which they have faked to appear as that of VC.

“They also give addresses of some offices outside the University’s premises where such victims could meet them up for some business transactions. They are aware of some official activities on campus and they use this information to trap their victims and swindle them,” it stated.
