FUOYE VC cautions fresh students against social vices, urges focus on academic excellence

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, has warned the fresh students of the university to shun a social vices including cultism, examination malpractices, internet fraud and indecent dressing.

Fasina, who spoke at Oye Ekiti on Thursday during the matriculation ceremony for 8,737 new intakes admitted into the 13 faculties of the institution, warned, “Any student found culpable of secret cult activities or other social vices will face disciplinary measures including expulsion”.

He told the matriculating students, “Today, you are the actors in this journey of academic pursuit. In the coming days and years, the challenges necessary to refine you in character and learning will stare unabashedly at you.

“So, do not flinch because you are the protagonist and must strive to interpret your role as a student worthy of the admission and the resulting award of a degree upon completion while we shall be directing you through your stay in this movie theatre of academic pursuit”.

The VC, who said that FUOYE had formidable team to help students hone their skills to produce the best performance possible, charged them, “Respect our rules and regulations and be diligent in your studies. Eschew all forms of social vices, including cultism, sexual harassment, Advance Fee Fraud and internet fraud, examination malpractices, indecent dressing, etc. Our university has zero tolerance for these and related social vices”.

He said that the university was committed to its objective of providing quality higher educational services and accessibility to the country’s growing youth population, adding, “Our beloved university has been living up to this responsibility in terms of faculty and new academic programmes, despite the global constraints which we face”.

“Consequently, the university has progressively established itself as an undisputable centre of attraction for prospective students across all the states of the federation. Our target is to consolidate on this momentum and never rest on our oars until our university becomes the leading academic institution in Nigeria and beyond,” the VC said.
