Health indicators show Ekiti has made significant progress in healthcare delivery – UNICEF

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has urged Ekiti State Government to strive to sustain and build on the progress recorded in the area of improved health services for residents of the state.

UNICEF South West Health Specialist, Dr Ijeoma Agbo, commended the state government for creating healthy environment that guaranteed quality healthcare service delivery.

Agbo spoke in Ado Ekiti on Friday during a one-day 2024 health sector annual review scorecard dissemination meeting organized by the state government in collaboration with UNICEF.

The UNICEF health specialist said, “Ekiti State has made significant progress as evidenced by the health indicators. There is, therefore, the need for the government and stakeholders to sustain the success”.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Oyebanji Filani, highlighted the sector’s performance and opportunities for improving health outcomes.

Filani appreciated stakeholders for their commitment to delivering quality healthcare services and charged them to continue striving to save more lives from preventable deaths.

The commissioner stressed the importance of garnering support from stakeholders to achieve the desired objectives for the state and its residents.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Mrs Olusola Gbenga- Igotun, said that the essence of the exercise was to help identify areas of strength and weakness and as well find solutions to challenges.

The Chairman of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Funke Ogunbunmi; and her counterpart in the state Hospitals Management Board, Dr Austine Ibikunle, said that Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s numerous interventions in the health sector had transformed the sector for improved healthcare services for the residents.
