INTERPOL Africa Committee election: Cleric hails IGP for repositioning, strengthening police

The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Osun State, Rev. Bunmi Jenyo, has congratulated the Nigeria Police and the Inspector General of Police, Dr Kayode Egbetokun, for the victory of a Nigerian police officer, CP Olubode Ojajuni, in the election into the INTERPOL Africa Committee.

The election, which secured for Nigeria the fifth seat on the Committee for a two-year tenure, was held at the 27th African Regional Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

The INTERPOL Africa Committee is mandated to advise the African Regional Conference, facilitate its sessions, and identify strategic crime priorities.

It also strengthens cross-border police cooperation, promotes best practices, and develops projects to improve regional and continental security.

Jenyo, who in a statement in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Wednesday, hailed the IGP for expanding the frontiers of the Nigeria Police and taking effective steps to reform the police, said Ojajuni’s election is a step in that direction.

He hailed the IGP for identifying talents in the force, strengthening the security agency for international policing and moving the Nigeria Police into international reckoning which contesting and winning a slot in the INTERPOL Africa Committee signifies.

The cleric, who said the current uplift for Ojajuni is a welcome development in all ramifications, said, “I congratulate you on your well deserved victory at the INTERPOL Africa Committee election.

“Your commitment, resilience and professionalism in your career are some of the obvious reasons why you cannot be underestimated or defeated. The grace of the Almighty God, which has taken you thus far will continue to sustain, uphold and guide you towards success and fulfillment”, Jenyo said.
