The Ekiti Council of Elders on Thursday officially ushered in the year 2025 amid thanksgiving and prayers for the country, Ekiti State and Council members.
The day, January 30, being the Council’s inaugural meeting for the year, the elders, who celebrated life with merriment on the occasion, also unveiled their programmes for 2025 as they prayed for the success of the programmes.
Programmes for 2025 included take off of the hospitality facilities at the Elders’ Resort; re-strategizing on the presentation of the book, ‘Yoruba Renaissance: Challenges and Prospects; Annual Lecture, Funfair for elders’ relaxation and End of the Year get-together/ Blue Cap Awards.
The elders also resolved to celebrate their leadership led by Prof. Joseph Oluwasanmi for the various initiatives, innovations, development and achievements of the Council had recorded.
The council, an association of people who have made their marks, retired but not tired, who feel they have something good to offer society, also on the occasion admitted 10 aspiring members.
Chairman of the Council, Prof. Oluwasanmi, urged Nigerians to embrace hope despite the challenges confronting the country.
Oluwasanmi said, “We should recall the inspiring period of visionary leadership under Chief Obafemi Awolowo when our national aspirations were firmly in our hands.
“We also have cause for optimism: For the first time since Independence, we have a government in Abuja led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, committed to restoring hope and constitutional order, empowering hard working citizens to achieve a better life.
“At the state level, Governor Biodun Oyebanji is taking significant steps to reclaim ungovernable spaces, especially in the Okela Ako, Ikole area, paying the way for agricultural productivity and prosperity.
“Together, let us embrace hope and strive for a brighter future for our country”, the nonagenarian said.
