Otun Ekiti, headquarters of the Moba Local Government area of Ekiti State, erupted in joy on Tuesday as the state government rolled out equipment to dredge the waterways in the community.

The joy of the community stemmed from the fact that the dredging would check the perennial flooding in parts of the community and Mobaland, a move, which is seen to target protection of lives and property.

The people, led by their traditional ruler, the Oore of Otun Ekiti and the Paramount Ruler of Mobaland, Oba Adekunle Adeayo Adeagbo, trooped to the Amututu and Inisha area of Otun Ekiti Mobaland where the waterways were being dredged to show support to the work.

Oba Adeagbo thanked the state governor, His Excellency Biodun Oyebanji, for dredging the waterways at Amututu and Inisha,Otun Ekiti Mobaland.

The Oore said, “This laudable project will reduce flood drastically in Otun Ekiti and Mobaland in general”.

The monarch said, “The swamp buggy mobilized to these locations cost the government hundreds of millions because its an expensive venture.

“On behalf of Otun Ekiti sons and daughters worldwide, we say a big Thank you to the people’s governor, His Excellency Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji. Thank you for this laudable life-saving and environment-transforming project,” the monarch said.

Oba Adeagbo, who was an oil and gas expert before he became king, can appreciate what the state government is doing especially that he had engaged in different dredging projects in Apa-Badagry Lagos, Lekki Peninsula and extensively in the Niger-Delta comprising Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom.
