Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) chairman in Ekiti State, Comrade Kolapo Olatunde, has said that the indefinite nationwide strike called by the organised labour billed to begin on Tuesday will be total.
Olatunde said the strike was to bring sanity to society, ensure Nigerians were given fair treatment and given chance to live like normal human beings.
The NLC chairman chairman spoke in Ado Ekiti while addressing members of the Com. Rotimi Ojomoyela-led Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State Council where he enlisted media practitioners’ total support for the industrial action.
The NLC chairman said, “Get food in your house, fill your tanks, because when we start, we will not call the strike off unless we get all our demands.
“Look at it, if the Federal Government should remove subsidy on fuel which moved the price of petrol from N197 per litre to over N600. Then salaries should be increased in that proportion. How much is a bag of rice being sold now, how much are salaries? A dollar is over N1,000 now.
“We are being impoverished in this country, they have turned us to slaves. We are saying no, we can no longer be slaves in our own lives. It is the way the political leaders are treating us.
“The strike is going to be indefinite, it is going to be total. All the airports will be closed down, all the seaports will be closed down. On Tuesday, stay at home. Let there be blackout,” he said.
