In a move targeted at strengthening the All Progressives Congress in the Southwest ahead of the 2027 general elections, a group, the Yoruba Leaders of Thought has set up a fact-finding and reconciliation committee with the aim of reviewing the state of the party across the zone.

The fact-finding and reconciliation committee is chaired by a former Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Asimiyu Alarape.

The YLT, in a statement by the National Secretary, Mr Bayo Aina, said that the committee set up by the Prince Tajudeen Olusi-led YLT would make recommendations to the APC leadership in the Southwest, adding, “The purpose is to be formidable and united in facing the 2027 elections.

“The inaugural meeting of the committee, was held with the Southwest APC Exco led by the National Vice Chairman, Dr Lateef Ibirogba; Secretary, Mr Alfred Aluko; and other executives of the party as well as Chief Ayo Afolabi and Mrs Bunmi Orilowo while former deputy governors of Ogun and Oyo states, Chief Segun Adesegun and Chief Iyiola Oladokun, Chief Mrs Ronke Okusanya as well as the National Secretary, Hon Bayo Aina led the YLT delegation.

“The Exco warmly welcomed Yoruba Leaders of Thought’s readiness to work across the Southwest for a peaceful settlement of disagreements within the party across the zone.

“We all agreed that though the party is not infallible, and every political contest will always throw up some form of rancour nevertheless, we must all continue to strive to build and refine the party to make it more formidable as a vehicle for attaining our various political goals as individuals who contest or desire appointment into various political positions and for our community , whose lot we all seek to improve .

“We in the Yoruba Leaders of Thought look forward to working with APC leaders and stakeholders as partners in progress for the stronger entrenchment of our (Progressive) political tendency in the Southwest and across Nigeria as the party of choice to drive the industrial economic and socio political goals of the SW and the nation at large,” Aina stated.

Meanwhile, the YLT has lauded the APC governorship candidate in the last election in Osun State, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, for accepting the outcome of the election.

The group also hailed Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, for his reelection and resolve to work for the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Aina stated, “Oyebamiji’s acceptance of the victory of Adeleke has helped to douse the tension in Osun State and also assisted in restoring peace to the state. It has also saved the state from witnessing contentious litigations that usually accompany election petitions in the country, thus enabling Adeleke to face governance”.

The YLT, while restating its position that Yoruba politicians must act within confines of the law and refuse to resort to violent action in furtherance of their ambitions, lauded President Bola Tinubu for ensuring that the Osun election was free and fair and devoid of violence.

The Yoruba leaders, in a congratulatory letter to Adeleke signed by Aina, stated, “Your victory which spanned the length and breadth of Osun State eloquently demonstrated the extent of your acceptance across the State.

“It indeed was a general affirmation of the quality of stewardship that you have rendered to the people of Osun ever since you entered public life, first as a senator and subsequently as the governor of Osun State.

“We are particularly delighted with your resolve to work with our preferred presidential candidate, Asiwaju Tinubu, whose tenure has witnessed the implementation of groundbreaking structural, political and economic policies that are bound to transform and place our dear country Nigeria among the wealthy , prosperous and progressive nations of the world within the next few decades.

“No doubt, the effective Independent National Electoral Commission reforms and the elder statesman-like posture of Mr President who is eager to build public trust in public institutions through the elevation of transparency, accountability and integrity contributed largely in ensuring that the will of the people of Osun was truly reflected in the outcome of the election,” the YLT stated.
