The Open Week event of the Federal House of Representatives which held at the National Assembly between July 8 and 10 was yet another opportunity for public participation in governance and as well to foster transparency accountability.

Prominent traditional rulers across from the six geopolitical zones of the country led by the Emir of Zazzau and Chairman Kaduna State Council of Emirs, Emir Nuhu Bamali, a distinguished former diplomat, graced the event.

The Oore of Otun Ekiti, Ekiti State and Paramount Ruler of Mobaland, Oba Adekunle Adeayo Adeagbo, was among leading traditional rulers in the country invited by the federal lawmakers to be part of the august event.

Oba Adeagbo, a foremost blue economist, who is the Southwest Coordinator, National Council of Traditional Rulers, relished every moment at the event which featured various activities including panel discussions and citizen engagement forums.

The traditional ruler hailed the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas, for the lawmakers’ commitment to transparency and public engagement and giving opportunity to citizens, stakeholders and members of the public to interact with legislative process.

He also appreciated the federal lawmakers for the engagement with stakeholders which, he said was key for the development of the country.

Oba Adeagbo said, “Traditional rulers are sacred beings and are the link between the past and the present and as well between the present and the future.

“A country without the history of its people may not have direction about the future, traditional rulers are the custodians of that history, heritage and tradition and they must have complementary and advisory roles in governance which will curb insecurity in communities and stabilize the polity”, the revered Oore said.

Oba Adeagbo said that the event, apart from deepening democracy, was yet another opportunity to socialize and meet people of different classes and social statuses across the length and breadth of the country and development-oriented engagements.
