Ekiti parent seeks Oyebanji, FUOYE VC’s intervention in son’s admission matter

We are only making an appeal to the school management to have mercy on us. Students like my son should not be denied admission because of a fraction of 0.65. They should please look into this matter”

A dental surgeon in the Ekiti State Hospitals Management Board, Dr Clement Owoeye, has appealed to the Governor of Ekiti, Biodun Oyebanji and the acting Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Olubunmi Shittu, to intervene in the admission bid of his son, David Owoeye.

His son, David Owoeye, with JAMB registration number 202551229684IA and examination number C18411126 from Ekiti South West Local Government, who is seeking admission to study Medicine and Surgery, was denied admission at the university, despite having an aggregate score of 84.

The father told journalists in Ado Ekiti that his son scored 300 in Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME 2025) and an aggregate score of 84 to study Medicine and Surgery at his first choice University for the 2025/2026 academic session.

He noted that only 16 candidates satisfied the 84.65 aggregate cut off mark although the quota for the course in FUOYE is 50 students per session as approval by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

The worried father appealed that the fraction of 0.65 should not deny his son from studying his dream course.

Dr Owoeye pleaded with Governor Oyebanji that his son should also be part of the remaining 34 students that would fill the quota for the department, emphasizing that fractions should not serve as yardsticks to disqualify brilliant students from pursuing their dream courses.

Owoeye, who described Oyebanji as a competent leader who believes in education and youth empowerment, hailed his giant strides across the sectors aimed at making the lives of Ekiti residents better.

The dental surgeon said, “I want to use this opportunity to call on the Governor, His Excellency Biodun Oyebanji, to please intervene in the academic pursuit of my son, David Owoeye, who was denied admission at FUOYE because he scored 84 out of the 84.65 designated as the cut off mark for Medicine and Surgery.

“From my findings, only 16 students scored above the cut off marks, which is not even up to the maximum quota of 50 students for the department in the University, as approval by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria in 2023.

“We are not attacking the school for anything, we are only making an appeal to the school management to have mercy on us. Students like my son should not be denied admission because of a fraction of 0.65. They should please look into this matter”.
