Oore leads monarchs to Olubadan to commemorate 1886 Kiriji Peace Treaty

The Oore of Otun Ekiti and Paramount Ruler on Mobaland, Oba Adekunle Adeayo Adeagbo, has led traditional rulers to the Olubadan of Ibadanland and the Chairman of Oyo State Traditional Council, Oba Adewolu Ladoja, to commemorate the Ekiti Parapo Peace Treaty of September 1886.
The visit was commemorative of the Ekiti Parapo Peace Treaty and the beginning of Ekiti Confederation.
Oba Adeagbo said that the visit spoke volumes about the peace and love between Ekiti and Ibadan 140 years on.
In attendance were traditional rulers; the Minister of Power, Olasunkanmi Tegbe; and other dignitaries.
The Kiriji Peace Treaty has been described as the First Yoruba recognized treaty that embodied all segments of Yoruba Race.
The Ekiti Parapo Peace Treaty of 1886 was signed on September 23, 1886 to end the brutal military stalemate of the Kiriji war between Ibadan and Ekiti Parapo alliance.
As part of activities marking the 140th anniversary of the peace treaty, a group, the Kiriji Heritage Conservation Foundation, in partnership with DAWN Commission and others, has organised a symposium titled, ‘140 Years of Yoruba Peace, Unity and Heritage’ at the prestigious University of Ibadan, Ibadan on Monday, September 21.
The symposium is expected to bring together scholars, policy makers, traditional rulers, cultural practitioners, peace advocates, students and development stakeholders.
Dignitaries expected at the symposium included former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo; Oba Ladoja; Oba Adeagbo; Aare Ona Kankanfo Gani Adams; and the Olu Kajola Isinkan, HRM Olumuyiwa Aguda.
