* Hails Mary, first female SUG president

For the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, it’s great news worth celebrating when seven eggheads who graduated with flying colours from the institution won doctoral degree scholarships with research assistantship positions of top notch universities in the United States of America (USA) and Brazil.
And barely 24 hours after the news of the PhD scholarships broke out, that six brilliant students of the upwardly mobile university, proved their academic wizardry by clearing the 2024 Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) examinations.
The admirable performance of the students and the feat achieved by the graduates have elicited encomium from several quarters in FUOYE and called for celebration.

An elated FUOYE Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, took pride in the feats achieved by 13 students and graduates of the institution who stood out in their endeavours.
The VC, according to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Wole Balogun, said that six FUOYE students cleared the 2024 ICAN examinations thus becoming freshly-minted chartered accountants.
They are Rojugbokan Oluwafemi, Ajibade Gideon Opeyemi, Oni Joshua Oluwafemi and Opakunle Philip who are in 400 Level and as well Abdulrazaq Abeeb and Eretan Ibukunoluwa Deborah, who are currently in 300 Level.
Fasina also said that seven graduates of the institution have won the doctoral degree scholarships with research assistantship positions of top notch universities in the USA and Brazil.
He listed the graduates as Afolabi Mojibola Esther (FUOYE’s best graduating student in Geology in 2022); Mariam Okunade, Adeleye Blessing and Toyin Sunday (first class graduates of Industrial Chemistry); and Engineering graduates – Alabi Johnson Sunday, FUOYE ex-SUG President; Adejumo Olarenwaju and Adele Emmanuel Oluwademilo.
The VC said, “They have made us proud, they have shown to the world that FUOYE offers the best in the quality and standard of University education in all disciplines in this country.
“These feats are as a result of the provision of conducive learning and teaching environment as well as the presence of sound lecturers who compete brilliantly with their colleagues in the academia anywhere in the world.
“We congratulate these students and graduates and wish them the best in all their future endeavours.

“We are equally glad that FUOYE has proved to be gender sensitive in all areas through the historic emergence of the first female Students Union Government president-elect, Miss Olorunshola Mary Abiodun. We wish the new student leader a fulfilling and progressive tenure. Congratulations,” the VC said.
The Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Babatunde Afolabi, a Professor of Finance, said accounting students of the university are renowned for excellence.

Afolabi said, “Last year, one of our students was the overall best in ICAN examination in the West Africa, now, six undergraduates have cleared their ICAN before graduation. This is a great feat.
“We appreciate God and our amiable VC and his management team,“ the don said.
The HOD, Accounting Department, FUOYE, Dr Alli Momoh, said, “This is a good development. This is not the first time that some of our students qualified. We decided to celebrate them in order to encourage other students to be serious with their studies.
“The benefits that come with this feat is that it will place the successful students on better footing when they get to labour market. We have deployed as strategies effective teachings, close mentoring and mentorship to ensure this success is achieved”.

Momoh, who advised students to be diligent, hard working and serious with their studies, lauded the VC, Prof. Fasina; and the school management for providing conductive environment for both the teaching staff and students, adding, “We specially appreciate our VC for all the support he gives to the department and others”.
Also elated with the feat of the graduates included the former Dean of the Faculty of Science and current Director of FUOYE’s Directorate of Research Innovation and Linkage Programme (DRILP),
Prof. Olayide Lawal; the Ag. Head of Department, Geology, Dr Charles A. Oyelami; Senior Lecturer, Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr K. A Bello.
The lecturers of the faculties had provided timely and deserving mentorship for the fortunate graduates.
Prof. Lawal said that the graduates, as students then, “showed serious commitment to their studies. They were actively involved in tutorial classes and did not allow social media distractions.
Lawal said, “My colleagues and I provided good mentoring for them, having realized that they were responsible, hardworking and well-focused students.”
Commenting on the laudable development, Prof. Lawal, also said: “The students showed serious commitment to their studies from the onset.
