Boiling point: Experts highlight how to prevent resurgence of military rule in Nigeria

*Asiwaju, Olawunmi to suggest action plans to encourage good governance

The popular Boiling Point Arena , a monthly online discourse on governance and nation building, will on Sunday dissect the now evolving wave of military incursion in governance across African states, with a view to shielding Nigeria from such aberration.

Discussants to thrash the issue are elder statesman, Prof. Anthony Asiwaju, an Emeritus Professor of History and expert on African Borderlands and Integration Studies: and a retired former Deputy Chief of Defence Administration, Commodore Kunle Olawunmi, who is currently an Associate Professor of Global Counter-Terrorism.

Prof Asiwaju, who retired long ago from the University of Lagos and Dr Olawunmi, who currently lectures in Chrisland University, Abeokuta, are to offer diverse perspectives on the topic, ”Shielding Nigeria From The Coup Contagion and Halting Incursion of Military Rule in Africa”.

Boiling Point Arena, the 11th in the series of the online interview discourse, will hold via Google Meet and is expected to be transmitted live by an Abeokuta-based radio station, Sweet 107.1FM, for the two hour duration from 8pm to 10pm on Sunday, 11th September, 2023.

The once-in-a-month current affairs programme, with an incredibly large online followership, is the brainchild of the Initiator and Convener, Mr. Ayo Arowojolu, a Media Professional with 33 years multi-varied work career spanning the media, banking and education sectors.

According to a statement by the Chairman, Organizing Committee for the programme, Mr Eddy Ademosu, one of Nigeria’s notable Public Relations icon, the interview discourse will in particular revisit the several causative factors that led to the prolonged era of the military in governance in the country shortly after Nigeria attained nationhood in 1960.

With a view to proffering lasting solutions capable of preventing a resurgence of military rule in Nigeria and also at the continental level, the duo will expectedly hammer on a number of action plans to encourage good governance as well as spell out the dos and dont’s to be internalized by our current political actors capable of pushing back the lure for coups by soldiers.
