Ekiti monarchs move to raise education standard, raise committee to secure future

Ekiti State is not called the ‘Fountain of Knowledge’ for nothing, but for it’s footprints and contributions in the education sector.

Ever persuaded that education is security for the future and the key to development of human beings and society, the new Chairman, Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers and the Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti, Oba Adejimi Adu-Alagbado, set up a committee on education.

The Committee comprising 20 traditional rulers selected from across the three senatorial districts of the state is chaired by the Oore of Otun Ekiti and Paramount Ruler of Moba land, Oba Adekunle Adeagbo Adeagbo.

Oba Adeagbo, who spoke on the essence of the committee, said the task of repositioning education in the state and taking it to greater heights was the responsibility of all well-meaning citizens and should not be left for government alone.

The committee chairman, who is the Southwest Coordinator of National Council of Traditional Rulers, said, “The mandate of the Education Committee is to see how the standard of education of our youths at all levels – primary, secondary and tertiary will keep improving”.

The Oore, who thanked the Ogoga for his appointment and as well of other traditional rulers to the committee, promised that the committee, as a team, would put in its best to deliver on the important assignment.

“The importance of education cannot be over-emphasized. Our state is renowned for education and we want the standard to continue to improve. Investment in education is investment in the future, it is investment in development.

“We thank the governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for his interventions and efforts at all levels in the education sector”.

Other members of the committee are the Alawe of Ilawe, Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi; the Alare of Are Ekiti, Oba Jacob Boluwade Adebiyi; the Olukoro of Ikoro Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Olanrewaju; the Obaleo of Erinmope Ekiti, Oba Sunday Aikuirawo Aniyi; the Onire of Ire Ekiti, Oba Victor Bobade; the Onigogo of Igogo Ekiti, Oba Sunday Adewumi; and the Olupoti of Ipoti Ekiti, Oba Kolade James Oladipupo.

The members also included the Onimesi of Imesi Ekiti, Oba Olatunji Olatunde; the Oniye of Iye Ekiti, Oba Jonathan Agboola Adeleye; the Elerio of Erio Ekiti, Oba Johnson Oluwadamilare Bamigbade; the Ojurin of Ijurin Ekiti, Oba Afolabi J. Ajibola; the Olusi of Usi Ekiti, Oba George Adebayo Akande; and the Owa-Egba, Oba Ayodele Ige Olokesusi.

They also included the Alaaye of Aye Ekiti, Oba Oso Amos Idowu; the Olufisin of Ifisin Ekiti, Oba Folami Fabunmi; the Alafao of Afao Ekiti, Oba Joseph Ajibare Ademilua; the Obalemo of Odo-Ora, Oba Akinola Samuel; and the Amuro Temidire, Oba Kupoluyi Ayodele.

The Owatapa of Itapa Ekiti, Oba Makanjuola Ajaja, who passed recently, was also a member of the committee.

This was at the Education Committee mourned the passage of Kabiyesi Ajaja, describing him as “an active monarch who always contributed positively to the Traditional Council. May the soul of the revered monarch rest in perfect peace”.
