‘My wife cheated on me for years – I only found out after she died’

“While going through her phone looking for photos to use in the funeral service, he discovered snaps of her dressed in sexy underwear, posing with sex toys, and videos of her masturbating while saying the names of other men in a baby voice”

A man who lost his beloved wife to suicide has revealed how he discovered she had been cheating on him for most of their marriage.

Blake Butler, 44, was devastated when his partner, Molly Brodak, took her own life on March 8, 2020, aged 39, however, his pain soon became all the more complicated as he began to process her tangled life.

Molly, also a writer, and a university teacher in Atlanta, first met Blake after the two connected over Facebook. Sharing all in his new book, Molly, he explains that their relationship was always “wild”. The first time they even met, Molly was in jail. It turned out that she had borrowed her roommate’s car to drive over to see him, not knowing that it had expired tags and had to be impounded.

Writing in his book, Blake revealed she had called from the back of a cop car to tell him what had happened. But rather than being upset, she was laughing about it, telling him he would never believe the predicament she was in and that she might be late for their date.

Hitting it off, the pair headed to a bar later that night and Molly explained that she’d previously had a brain tumour, and showed him her MRI scan. Describing her as bringing “chaos” with her wherever she went, Blake added: “I was always kind of attracted to women who were wild.”

The couple married in 2017 and according to Blake, had been very happy. He knew she had a history of depression and mental illness but he hadn’t known how sad she truly was. Speaking to The Post about her suicide, he revealed: “I knew she was depressed, but how could she give up on me? How could she give up on us? How could she give up on herself?”

But it was only after Molly’s death that Blake began to unravel her tangled life and lies. While going through her phone looking for photos to use in the funeral service, he discovered snaps of her dressed in sexy underwear, posing with sex toys, and videos of her masturbating while saying the names of other men in a baby voice.

He learned that she had slept with one of her students, only weeks after their wedding, and had cheated on him many times, with lots of other men. Stunned, he began going through Molly’s emails and found out she had been sending sultry snaps to many of her students at the different colleges where she taught.

Although devastated, Blake admitted that finding out about the lies and the cheating had been somewhat of a relief. He added: “It wasn’t that I had failed her. It was that she had built this world of lies.”

Blake began writing his book, Molly, a month after she died. Through the process of everything, his findings have led him to believe that his late wife may have had borderline personality disorder.

Thankfully, Blake’s story has a happy ending. He met his now wife and remarried in 2022, and the couple live in Baltimore. He added: “Coming out of my relationship with Molly, I had really learned to think of the world as a place of pain. I was certainly not looking for love, I was looking for a way to destroy myself.”
