Traditional Rulers across the country have moved for enhanced social welfare for their communities.
The monarchs, under the auspices of National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, made the case during a meeting with the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, in his office in Abuja.
The Oore of Otun Ekiti and the Southwest Coordinator of NCTRN, Oba Adekunle Adeagbo, who represented the Council during the visit, expressed hope that the meeting would bring far-reaching positive development to different communities.
Oba Adeagbo said, “We visited the Minister to discuss about health and social welfare of the people and to bridge the communication gap between the Ministry and the rural communities and to know the essence of social welfare to the people”.
According to the prominent first class traditional ruler, the minister lauded monarchs for their intuition, saying he was greatly encouraged by the level of education of present traditional rulers in the country and their capacity to think out of the box.
Pate stressed that traditional rulers are closest to the grassroots, hence carrying them along will make their work easy and there would be maximum impact directly to the people.
The minister disclosed that there would be a programme soon between the Federal Ministry of Health and the traditional institution.
However, the Oore on his own part, has done a bit of social welfare for people in his domain, Mobaland, where is the Paramount Ruler.
This has been through donations to the Christian and Muslim widows and enhancing the well-being of the security agencies.
Oba Adekunle, who said the part of all well-meaning members of society was necessary, said, “Together We Can”.
