A federal lawmaker representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency II (Moba, Ido/Osi and Ilejemeje LGAs), Hon. Akinlayo Davidson Kolawole, has lauded President Bola Tinubu and the labour unions for the resolution reached on N70,000 as a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
Kolawole said, “The agreement was a needed sacrifice on the sides of the Federal Government and Organised Labour in order to move the country forward especially in conformity with the current economic realities”.
The lawmaker, in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Friday, saluted President Tinubu’s courage and foresight at recording an amicable, peaceful and acceptable resolution on the matter.
As the New Minimum Wage Bill is expected to go to the National Assembly on Tuesday, Kolawole assured that Nigerian lawmakers would continue to support every bill that is aimed at promoting and enhancing harmonious working relationship between the government government and the workers.
He said, “The latest development has again proved to all Nigerians irrespective of political or religious inclinations that the APC led government in Nigeria is capable of solving some of the challenges facing the country through a round table discussion and achieve desired results for the benefit of all.
“It is therefore imperative for all citizens to continue to have confidence in the government through support and prayers as the Tinubu administration is determined to ensure quick economic recovery for the country through a pragmatic and get-to-bottom approach with the interest of the masses as a priority.
“I can assure Nigerians that many challenges facing the country now will soon become a thing of the past with the support of all, especially for President Tinubu. The President has been ‘walking the talks’ in his determination to rebuild the nation,” he stated.
The lawmaker, while commending Nigerian workers for their support for the present administration, called for sustenance of the support, assuring that government would not toy with the civil service, but always create a conducive atmosphere in which the entire workforce could perform optimally.
Kolawole urged workers to re-dedicate themselves towards achieving the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of the present administration to fast-track the development of the nation.
The Federal legislator also praised Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State for making the welfare of workers in the state a priority since assumption of office, saying, the development has created an avenue for rapid development of the state.
The House of Representatives member, solicited more support for the from the civil servants and all Ekiti citizens, saying, “To whom much is given, much is expected so they say. Therefore, it is through hard work, commitment and sincerity to duties that government welfares and incentives for Nigerian workers can be justified, Kolawole concluded.
