It has been ovations all the way for the Federal University Oye Ekiti for its historic decision to name key buildings and facilities after some of Nigeria’s most distinguished figures.

The latest is coming from a former National Assembly member, Senator Ayo Arise, who, in a heartfelt show of support for legacy, education, and national pride, hailed the development, describing it as a welcoming development.

Senator Arise, who is one of the beneficiaries, who has a road named after him, spoke during a private reception held at his residence in Oye-Ekiti in honour of the university’s Governing Council, led by Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba.

The former federal lawmaker said, “This is more than just a ceremonial gesture – it is a powerful message that excellence matters and service is remembered”.

The naming exercise, described as a first in the university’s history, was spearheaded by the Directorate of Advancement, led by Prof. Olubukola Oyawoye, in collaboration with the FUOYE top management.

Prof. Oyawoye emphasized the broader purpose of the initiative: “This project celebrates the power of legacy. We are proud to associate our university’s future with the footprints of giants across multiple sectors. These names will not only shape identity but also ignite ambition in our students and staff.”

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olubunmi Shittu, hailed the effort, describing it as both transformational and strategic.

Shittu said, “It aligns with FUOYE’s goal of becoming a globally competitive institution rooted in national relevance and vision”.
