The Ojomo-in-Council has condemned the demolition of Ojomo Market gate and destruction of Market women property in Ijebu-Owo by the participants of Igogo festival.

The Council said that those on the procession entered into the market in Ijebu-Owo, an autonomous community, and pulled down the fence with the gate and allegedly made away with the gate on a motorcycle.

It added that the participants also destroyed the traders’ stalls and their goods, despite the fact that the market was deserted at the time of the incident.

Consequently, in a statement by Chief Tunde Ojomoboriota, the Council called on Ondo State Government, concerned authorities and relevant security agencies to do the needful and bringing perpetrators to book.

The Council described as unfortunate the dastardly act of the Igogo Festival participants outside their territory despite having signed undertaking earlier.

Ojomoboriota stated, “Ijebu-Owo people are peace loving hence the calmness during the destruction of the property by those on Olowo’s procession”.

The Ojomo-in-Council stressed that “the traditional institution law in Ondo State and all over the country does not permit any other monarch to forcibly encroach the territory of others.

“The Ojomo of Ijebu-Owo, Oba Kofoworola Olatunbosun Oladoyinbo, remains resolute and maintains dignity by abiding with the peace accord earlier signed”.
