By John Odunayo

The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Adeniran Akinwale, has advised youth in Ekiti State to refrain from participating in the protest being planned for October 1 by some individuals to prevent it from being hijacked by miscreants.

The police commissioner, who spoke in a chat, advised that illegality should not be used to pursue legality, as he urged youths to shun protest but embrace peace and dialogue.

The commissioner said, “We are enjoining the people to ensure they don’t go out to protest so that hoodlums will not hijack it which will not be to anyone’s benefit. Definitely, we are going to reach out at the same time and ensure there is peace and tranquility in Ekiti State.

“We have been doing it, we have been having discussions with the important stakeholders and we will continue to reach out to those people that are relevant and to also talk to the youth as usual to ensure they don’t take law into their hands.

“With the present economic situation internationally and nationally, everybody has to make sacrifice and to understand so as not to use illegality to pursue legality, adding that it was unnecessary for anybody to toe path that would be against peace,” the police boss said.

This was as the Police Commissioner in Ondo State, Abayomi Oladipo, enjoined parents and guardians to warn their children/wards not to partake in any activity that can lead to the break down of law and Order in the state.

Oladipo, in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, Funmilayo Odunlami, expressed commitment to the protection of lives and property of all citizens.

The CP urged the people of the state “to continue to be patriotic and not join any organization or group that may want to disrupt the historical celebration of our dear nation”.

He said that security apparatuses have been activated to apprehend anyone that transgressed the law during the course of the celebration.

Oladipo said, “The Command is committed to the protection of lives and property of all citizens as security apparatuses are activated to apprehend anyone that transgressed the law during the course of the celebration.
